A Heroic Rescue: Amir's Bravery
In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, Amir Hamadamin, a dedicated taxi driver for Amir's Taxis, recently rescued a woman and her dog from a burning building. The incident occurred just before 3:00 AM on Sunday, March 27th, as Amir was returning to Newport after dropping off passengers in Bath.
Driving along the A46, Amir noticed what appeared to be flames emanating from The Tollgate tearoom. Initially unsure, he decided to reverse his vehicle to get a closer look. It was then he confirmed that flames were indeed coming from the roof of the property. Acting swiftly, Amir immediately called 999 and began honking his horn and flashing his lights to alert anyone inside and to guide emergency services to the location.
Upon arriving at the scene, Amir found the front door impassable. Hearing a dog barking inside, his determination to help intensified. He circled the property and managed to break through a wooden gate, throwing it through a glass-paned back door to gain entry. Navigating through thick smoke, Amir was driven by the sound of the barking dog, which he feared might not survive.

His bravery paid off when he located the distressed woman coming down the stairs. Amidst the chaos and the growing intensity of the fire, Amir guided her out of the building, giving her his jacket. He then alerted her to the arriving emergency services, whom he had guided to the scene.
Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue arrived promptly and were able to extinguish the blaze, which had spread from the kitchen area to the roof and adjacent residential property. They confirmed that the woman had been rescued by Amir prior to their arrival and that they subsequently rescued the dog, Ricky. Both were safely brought out of the building, much to Amir's relief and overwhelming happiness.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, stemming from an electrical fault. The Tollgate tearoom suffered significant damage, leading to the cancellation of bookings, including those for Mother's Day. The owners expressed their gratitude to Amir for raising the alarm and assisting in the evacuation, and to the fire service for their swift and effective response.
Amir, reflecting on the event, described it as a life-changing experience, feeling "reborn" after performing such a heroic act. He hopes to visit the tearoom once it's rebuilt to check on the well-being of the woman and her dog, Ricky.
